K4K Books, LLC is always looking for good artists to design our book covers and interior art. If selected, you will be offered opportunities to design a book cover and possibly interior art work for a book we are planning on publishing. Your name will be listed on the title page of the book, with a statement like, "Cover Art by: Your Name" and if you also do interior work, "All artwork by: Your Name." You will also receive 5 (for cover only) - 10% (for cover and interior chapter work) royalties on the profit from each sale. This is primarily an opportunity for a young artist to see his or her art work in print and to help K4K Books, LLC succeed in its mission. If you are interested you will need to send us pictures of your work (jpegs or gifs work great). If you are selected, we will tell you the basic information for a book and if you agree to the commission, we will send you the manuscript. You will be expected to read the work and design a suitable cover along with possible chapter art. You will be given a lot of freedom in the design / artwork. We also may connect you with the author so that you can work with him or her to come up with a design which fits their vision for the story.
K4K Books, LLC is a unique publishing company. Our goal is not primarily to make a profit. Our primary goal is to help encourage young writers to be authors. We do this by providing a specialized publishing venue for young writers. We can always use help in the form of good ideas, suggestions, critiques, and advice. To that end, if you feel you have a special insight to our market or mission - we welcome the submission of your resume. We hope to build a network of advisors - from teachers (elementary, middle school, high school, home school, and college) to parents and librarians. Our advisors will be formed into a "constituent group" and will receive periodic emails asking for feedback or new ideas. So that your privacy (and email inbox) is kept reasonably unscathed, if you are a constituent group member and want to communicate with the group, you will have to send emails to us - and after approving them, we will forward them to the group. Being a member of our constituent group means that you will have input to how K4K Books, LLC fulfills its mission. It also means that you will receive more email - from us, and possibly from each other. If you would like to help us fulfill our mission, send us your resume. If accepted, we will add you to our email group. You can ask to leave the group at any time.
Along with writers and artists, K4K Books, LLC is looking for editors. As an editor you will be expected to work closely with the author (electronically) to assist him or her in finalizing the work. The editor is not expected to write or rewrite the story. The editor makes suggestions at a high concept level, construction, or plot issues. The editor will also help with proofreading the final manuscript to ensure it is ready for publication. Remember, as an editor, we do NOT want you to change the tone of the book - the story is written by a young writer (18 or younger) for young readers. If you are an adult taking on this important task - don't fall into the trap of trying to make the author's work sound like a book written by an adult. Look for glaring problems, not personal preferences. Don't worry over this too much - if you apply to be an editor, we will work with you closely on your first book to ensure you can help without being overpowering. Editing is definitely not for everyone and is NOT an easy task. If you are selected, you will be offered an opportunity to work on a book. Depending on how you do (based on the author's feedback and our evaluation) you will (or will not) be offered future works. As an editor, your name will appear on the title page of the book with the statement, "Edited by: Your Name." You will also receive 5% royalties on the book's profits for as long as K4K Books, LLC sells the title. As with the artist and advisor role, this is primarily an opportunity for you to help K4K Books, LLC in its mission. If you are interested we will need a short resume / bio. If you are selected, we will provide more details.
